Excessive Sweating / Hyperhidrosis

”Don’t bathe, I’m coming home“– As legend has it, Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France, wrote these lines to his beloved wife Josephine in anticipation of an amorous tête-à-tête. Whether this preference was specific to the emperor or corresponded to the general taste of the time should probably better remain unanswered.

Today, however, this preference will certainly not find a majority.

Noticeable body odor or even visible sweat stains are highly undesirable. The same applies to damp handshakes and the proverbial sweaty feet. Even though the causes are hormonal or neurological, and the affected persons follow a strict personal hygiene, these symptoms of hyperhidrosis often lead to their social withdrawal or exclusion.

Injection therapy with botulinum toxin, commonly called Botox®, is a very effective method, especially for severe axillary perspiration. Botulinum toxin has been used very successfully for decades in various fields of medicine (e.g., neurology, ophthalmology, and aesthetic medicine).

In hyperhidrosis therapy, Botox blocks the transmission of stimuli from the nerve fibers of the autonomous nervous system to the sweat glands’ cells. Without the signal, the glands are not activated, preventing the undesired excessive sweating.

The result of the therapy will last approx. 4 to 9 months, when it has to be repeated.

Sclerotherapy with aetoxysclerol is a possible alternative treatment. The injection of aetoxysclerol causes an inflammatory reaction in the sweat gland tissue, causing the excretory ducts to stick together. Although sweat is still produced, it cannot flow outwards, thus preventing excessive sweating.

The result of therapy with Aetoxysklerol will last approx. 12 to 24 months, when it has to be repeated.

In a personal consultation, Dr. med. Dr. med. Christina Irene Günter will discuss sensitively and in detail which treatment or therapy is to be recommended in your individual case. Dr. med. Dr. med. Christina Irene Günter will also explain the course of treatment as well as possible adverse side effects and risks.
