Medically Supervised Weight Loss

A trim well-shaped body is considered attractive and desirable. To achieve and maintain the body contours, an active lifestyle and a balanced diet are essential. Still, even very athletic people have a few little love handles in unwanted places. Life, pregnancies, or other decisive event have left their traces on your body – and your scales. Regardless of whether we have several or only a few kilos too many, we often cannot reach the desired ideal weight of our own volition. Or they return as if by magic as soon as we happily contemplate the low weight indicated on the scales and the excellent fit of the new pair of trousers.

Untreated, obesity (or overweight) increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, complaints such as overstressed joints, and shortness of breath.

Healthy, lasting weight loss will reduce these risks and improve your general quality of life.

The daily look in the mirror, the upcoming wedding, the precarious state of health caused by too much weight, or the need for a particular surgery – there are many, very personal reasons for losing weight.

Rather than tormenting yourself with an uncertain outcome, it is better to seek medical advice and learn about the available treatment options.

Simeons or hCG Diet

The English physician Albert Simeons is the originator of the hCG Diet. Shortly after World War I, he went to India as a military doctor, where he observed that malnourished Indian women were still giving birth to healthy babies. As a result of his studies, he systematically started to administer the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to patients during their diets. He acquired an enormous amount of empirical knowledge and already put forward various hypotheses, which have become relevant again due to modern research into fat metabolism.

In 1954, Albert Simeons published his book “Pounds and Inches,“ where he explains the basics of the Simeons or hCG diet and its protocol. Simeons describes the steps of a low-carbohydrate, low-calorie, low-fat, and high-protein diet combined with daily hCG injections that have remained unchanged until today.

After finishing his service as a British military doctor, he opened his own diet clinic, where he helped the international Who is Who to lose several kilos over the following 30 years. It is known that he assisted Maria Callas, Liz Taylor, and other stars to regain their desired body size.

However, this diet is not a miracle cure, even though patients usually lose between 6 to 13 kilos within 3 weeks. It requires rigorous discipline and continuous patient monitoring. As a fast and safe method to lose weight, the Simeons Diet still has its value today and can be recommended under close supervision by an experienced physician.

The genuine Simeons Diet might be an alternative treatment for lipedema patients. The Simeons Diet uses hCG to initiate the degradation of particularly stubborn, genetically determined, and diet-resistant fat deposits. The injection of this hormone induces the body to use the stored fat and break it down like normal fat, the same way the malnourished pregnant women in India Dr. Simeons had observed doing.

Currently, there are indications that the pathological fat deposits of lipedema may also be reduced using the genuine Simeons Diet. For patients who cannot undergo surgery for medical reasons, this is the only way to regain their quality of life.

In addition, hCG helps

  • to prevent hunger pangs
  • to keep the blood sugar level low
  • to guard against exhaustion and lack of energy
  • to brighten the patient’s mood
  • to keep your skin firm and soft
  • to improve cellulite

Dr. med. Dr. med. Christina Irene Günter will discuss in a personal conversation, whether the Simeons Diet is suitable for your specific situation.

It goes without saying that your health is always given priority. Treatments that negatively affect your health or physical integrity are not recommended. Detailed consultations are mandatory before any surgical procedure. It is essential to talk about the motivation for this kind of diet, to discuss whether the desired result can be achieved, and to speak about possible limitations. Other important topics are alternative treatments, as well as potential adverse side effects and possible risks.

Trulicity and Saxenda

Trulicity and Saxenda are a medications initially developed for persons with diabetes. Today it also helps severely overweight people lose weight, and keeping their blood sugar level stable. Liraglutide, the active compound in Saxenda, stimulates insulin production in the pancreas, creating a long-lasting, if artificial, feeling of satiety and preventing further food consumption. Dulaglutid, the active compound in Trulicity, stimulates insulin production in the pancreas, creating a long-lasting, if artificial, feeling of satiety and preventing further food consumption.

Saxenda is only indicated for obesity and has to be injected daily, at any given time of day.

It is, however, essential to combine Saxenda with a balanced diet and physical exercise. Treatment should not exceed 3 months. During this time, the patient may lose about 3 kilos weekly. After discontinuation of Saxenda, it is crucial to continue with the new exercise- and nutrition-conscious lifestyle to maintain this new sense of well-being.

Christina Irene Günter will discuss in a personal conversation whether the Saxenda-based diet is suitable for your specific situation.
