Removal of Skin Tumors

Over the years, various tumors may form on the skin. The vast majority are benign, such as moles and age warts, but they may be bothersome from an aesthetic perspective. They can be easily removed, even if it is not really necessary.

However, in the case of malignant tumors, surgical removal (also called “excision“) is mandatory.

Benign skin tumors include all types of moles (nevus cell nevi), connective tissue tumors (fibromas), fatty tissue tumors (lipomas), age warts (seborrheic keratoses), and blood vessel tumors (small hemangiomas). In these cases, it is up to you whether or not you find the growth disturbing enough to have it removed. The method of choice has to be considered and discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Anders als ein gutartiger Hauttumor muss ein bösartiger Hauttumor zwingend entfernt werden und zwar chirurgisch, das heißt durch eine Operation.

Responsible patients, therefore, will observe their skin regularly and consult a specialist to have anomalies evaluated immediately. Please make an appointment with Dr. med. Dr. med. Christina Irene Günter as soon as you notice the following indicators: sudden increase in size, bleeding, and other skin anomalies.

In a personal consultation, Dr. med. Dr. med. Christina Irene Günter will be happy to discuss with you the best way to treat skin cancer cosmetically. Depending on size and location, the tumor can be removed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. Larger tumors may require a hospital stay and general anesthesia.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, surgical removal of skin tumors may lead to bruising (hematoma), secondary bleeding, swelling, wound healing disorders, infections, and wound dehiscence. Temporary numbness of the treated area may also occur.

If the findings are unclear, the tumor will be sent to a pathological laboratory for a more precise microscopic evaluation after removal to determine the type of tumor. If the results require further treatment, I will tell you about it sensitively and emphatically.

For malign tumors, treatment costs will be covered by health insurance, sometimes also for benign growths. I am happy to help you clarify whether your health insurance company will assume the costs for your treatment.
